Chaol Westfall is Captain of the Royal Guard, and the first character Celaena meets at the start of the story. A few years older than her, he comes off at first as an arrogant, aggressive watchdog who distrusts her deeply.
But over the course of her training, Chaol reveals himself to be caring, a little goofy, and quietly a bit in love with her. As much as he feigns annoyance and worries over Celaena and Dorian's antics, he ultimately cares deeply for both of them.
